A sofa, bread crates and several pairs of pants were discovered by litter pickers as locals in Cleland held a community clean-up.
Over 50 residents were out in force with their litter picks and high-vis jackets with the aim of cleaning up the village.
The event was organised by Cleland Community Council and saw around 300 bags of rubbish collected, along with a myriad of bulkier items, as the volunteers grafted for hours.
A message posted to the group’s Facebook page read: “We would like to thank all the amazing volunteers today for their true community spirit.
“It’s was very much appreciated and you have made a huge difference to our village.”
Areas tidied up included Biggar Road, Wishaw Low Road, the public park and Omoa Road.
The local Scotmid supplied the litter picks and jackets, as well as providing a voucher for a hot drink for the thirsty volunteers.
Cleland councillor Louise Roarty was just one of the volunteers who took part in the clean-up.
She said: “It was a cracking turnout and the good weather certainly made a difference.
“To collect over 300 bags of rubbish was a great effort.
“The council bin lorry was in the area so they were able to take a lot of the bags and a van was there too so we had all the rubbish cleaned up almost as soon as it had been picked up.
“The response was so good that many people said they wanted to make it a monthly event.
“A few of the guys had to drag a sofa up which was chucked down an embankment.
“We also had to pick some bread crates from down at the park and bizarrely some bright yellow pants.
“I think all I would ask is that people be more responsible and take their items down to the recycling centre and keep our village tidy.”
