IT telecoms firm moves into capital with takeover

A telecoms and IT services business in the Borders that lists Ted Baker, Stobo Castle and Victim Support Scotland among its clients has taken over an Edinburgh peer.

Newton St Boswells-based SoConnect has bought Netopa from founder and chief executive Bob Bazley for an undisclosed sum. The enlarged company will have revenues of around £4 million a year, with Netopa’s turnover swelling SoConnect’s by about a third and its 10 members of staff taking the combined headcount to 30.

Under the deal, Bazley will join SoConnect’s board as chief operating officer. Campbell Fraser, founder and chief executive at SoConnect, said: “Netopa has built a fantastic reputation among its customer base and the deal is a great strategic fit for SoConnect. Bringing Bob and the Netopa team on board strengthens our offering and gives us a footprint in Edinburgh, which will be important as we look to grow the team.”

Netopa’s clients include law firm Blair Cadell, financial advisor Principal & Prosper and Frontier IP, which helps universities commercialise their inventions. Documents filed at Companies House listed Bazley as Netopa’s sole shareholder.
