Socks for the Street campaign has Amazon wishlist for items you can donate to the homeless

If you're wondering how you can help Edinburgh's homeless over the Christmas period, the Socks for the Street campaign is a great place to start.

Aged just 11, it was set up by Leith pupil Joseph Cox who wanted to make sure rough sleepers had decent clothing. He collected socks and other warm items to hand out around the homeless community.

His kindness was praised around the country and he was recognised at the Young Scot Awards in 2018.

So far he has donated 5000 pairs of socks, 2000 pairs of underwear as well as hats and gloves.

This winter Socks for the Street has an Amazon wishlist of items which Joe and his family will hand out to the homeless if donors purchase them.

He says they particularly need emergency survival bags and waterproof sleeping bag covers.

A post on the Socks for the Street Facebook said: "Its cold, it's wet. Imagine if you can't get warm or dry at all.

"We have been asked if we could help supply some emergency survival bags/waterproof sleeping bag covers for people living on the street. They aren't cheap, but they could save a life.

"If you feel able, please follow the link to our wish list and send us a survival bag or two."

The full wishlist includes men's and women's socks, thermals and packs of underwear. Donations are as little as £6.15.
