Socially-distanced tennis is on as courts reopened by Nottingham City Council

Courts at Nottingham's Tennis Centre have reopened after lockdown measures were eased by the government - but other leisure centres remain shut for now.

The city council has introduced measures to support social distancing on the 16 outdoor courts at the centre on University Boulevard after they reopened on Saturday, May 23.

Courts are available by advanced booking only, a one-way system has been set up with sanitising stations throughout and all indoor facilities remain closed.

Councillor Dave Trimble, portfolio holder for leisure and culture, said: “We were delighted to open 16 outdoor tennis courts at Nottingham Tennis Centre on Saturday.

"It was great to see the people of Nottingham playing on our courts responsibly over the sunny bank holiday weekend, and we look forward to welcoming more in the coming weeks.

"This was the culmination of weeks of hard work by our team, taking national advice, following LTA guidance and preparing the courts for use in a safe way.

“In all the work we have been doing, safety is our highest consideration, both for our visitors and staff.

"Comprehensive risk assessments have been undertaken to ensure all appropriate safeguards and messages are in place for people to have safe and enjoyable visits."

Other leisure centres across Nottingham remain closed, in line with Government guidance.

Mr Trimble added: "The wellbeing of customers and staff will remain at the forefront of all city council decisions on reopening.”

Over the road from the tennis centre at Highfields Park, the outdoor Adventure Golf is now also open.

Fishing at Colwick Country Park has re-opened and a new online ticketing system has been launched.

Government guidelines state that people should only partake in such activities alone, with members of your household, or with one other person from outside your household, while practising social distancing.

You should take particular care if you need to use any indoor facilities next to these outdoor courts, such as toilets.
