Social Welfare Ireland payment changes coming to PUP confirms Taoiseach Micheal Martin

Taoiseach Micheal Martin has confirmed that there will be changes to Social Welfare payments in the coming weeks.

The Government will unveil a new plan for the PUP towards the end of May and the Fianna Fail leader gave an insight into those changes this morning.

He said there will be "no cliff edge" but some slight differences when asked if there was any end to the Pandemic Unemployment Payment.

The Taoiseach said: "We are going to, and have been formulating a national economic recovery plan, so there will be no cliff edge in terms of a sudden end to the variety of reports."

He added: "There's a range of areas we're going to have to look at.

"A new approach and a new direction towards the end of May, in that period."

The May Bank Holiday weekend will see some changes to the social welfare payment this week.

Because of the public holiday on May 3, all banks and post offices will be closed meaning payments will be fast tracked.

Welfare payments that were due on Monday will now be paid on Friday 30 April.

Payments via Post Office for May 3 will be available for collection on April 30 but payments for Tuesday May 4 will remain the same.

Those receiving payments into bank accounts or credit unions will also get an earlier than expected payment on Friday 30 April.

Child Benefit is due on Tuesday May 4 and will remain as scheduled no matter what the payment method.
