Social welfare Ireland: Major payment date changes ahead of St Patrick's Day bank holiday

Ireland is set for a bumper week with the return of the St Patrick's Day festival - and a four-day weekend.

The Government agreed to the "double" bank holiday to thank all of the frontline workers that kept things moving in the midst of the pandemic.

However this will have a significant impact on the social welfare system, as like all bank holidays, Post Offices are due to be closed as well as Intreo Centres from Thursday, March 17 until the following Monday.

For those collecting welfare and other payments from the post office, here are all of the changes to coincide with the double bank holiday:

  • Payments due on March 14 will be available on Friday, March 11
  • Payments due on March 15 will be available on Monday, March 14
  • Payments due on March 16 and 17 will be available on Tuesday, March 15
  • Payments due on March 18 will be available on Wednesday, March 16

Things will return to normal practice on Monday, March 21.

EFT payments and cheques for casual jobseekers will be processed on Wednesday, March 16, 2022.

To avoid any disruption to your payment, you will need to submit your declaration for the week ending 15/16 March by:

  • 4 pm on Wednesday, March 16 for online submissions
  • 2 pm on Tuesday, March 15 for paper docket submissions

If you submit your declaration before this deadline, your payment will be available for collection or in your bank account by Tuesday 22 March.

For those who cannot show their expected work schedule before this deadline, they can still submit your declaration as normal, but payments will be delayed.
