Social welfare Ireland: Exact date students will receive double grant payment this December

Students availing of the Student Universal Support Ireland grant are set to receive a double payment in December.

Around 50,000 students will receive between €56 to €679 depending on the relevant rate they are entitled to. As well as this, students who paid the full €3,000 student contribution are set to receive a €1,000 refund from the college they attend over the coming weeks.

The measures, which aim to help students through the cost of living crisis, were announced during Budget 2023. It is understood that no action is required by students to receive the refund.

However, colleges have been asked to process refunds for those who paid upfront before the budget announcement by contacting eligible students this week and seeking the necessary account details.

Students must provide these details by November 30 to receive the refund before Christmas. Minister for Further Education Simon Harris said the measures were aimed at putting money back in students' pockets.

“These are practical measures to help students and families with the cost of education and the cost of living more generally. If you have not paid your fee it will be knocked off your bill, and if you have your college will be in touch to ensure you get your money back.”
