The Enhanced Illness Benefit payment to workers has been extended into June, Minister for Social Protection, Heather Humphreys has announced.
The full rate of €350 will be paid until the end of June 2022.
This social welfare payment was introduced to support workers who cannot work due to contracting Covid-19 or who need to self-isolate due to being a close contact.
To date almost €230 million has been paid out in support of over 374,000 people.
Announcing the extension of payment until June 30, 2022, Minister Humphreys said: "The Enhanced Illness Benefit has been a vital support for so many workers and the self-employed throughout this Pandemic. Self-employed people are entitled, and have been since the start of the scheme, to Covid-Illness Benefit."
The rate of €350 per week was to be stopped later this February but with Covid-19 currently rife in communities, it has been extended to the end of June.
In order to avail of the Enhanced Illness Benefit, you will need:
- Confirmation from the HSE that you are positive for Covid-19 either through a PCR test or having registered a positive antigen test.
- Certification from your doctor that you have symptoms of Covid-19 and/or are a probable source of infection.
- Confirmation from the HSE that you have ordered an antigen test kit or have booked a PCR test.
