Social Welfare: Full details as Pandemic Unemployment Payment to reopen on Tuesday with top rate of €350

The Pandemic Unemployment Payment (PUP) will reopen on Tuesday and the amount people can receive will depend on their previous income before being laid off by Covid-19 restrictions.

People who were earning €400 or more a week will be eligible for the top rate of €350.

Those who received wages between €300 and €399 will be entitled to €300.

Workers who were earning between €200 and €299 will receive €250.

And €203 will be paid to people who fall into earnings between €151.50-€200.

A new rate of €150 will be paid to those who had previously been earning less than €151.50.

The Department of Social Protection has said it will use Revenue data to verify people’s employment status for all applications it receives.

Applications should be made online through the MyWelfare.ie portal.

Social Protection Minister Heather Humphreys told RTÉ: "If people can show they have been laid off as a result of the restrictions introduced then they will certainly get the support of the PUP."

Minister Humphreys said people have to be laid off to receive the PUP and if workers find their hours cut back, they should consult with the social welfare offices.

The PUP is being reinstated after the Government reintroduced Covid-19 restrictions which will see nightclubs close from Tuesday, December 7.

People working in the entertainment industry will also be hit as indoor capacity is being scaled back to just 50%.

Publicans, hospitality chiefs and representatives of the entertainment industry met with Taoiseach Micheál Martin, Tánaiste Leo Varadkar, Minister Michael McGrath, and Minister Catherine Martin on Monday.

CEO of the Restaurant Association of Ireland, Adrian Cummins said the main focus of the meeting was to discuss the Business supports for Restaurants, Pubs and Hotels in terms of criteria regarding the CRSS (COVID Recovery Support Scheme.)

The Hospitality sector outlined that the current 50% threshold criteria excluded the vast majority of Hospitality of Businesses from availing of the scheme at a vital time.

The Government said they would look at the criteria for CRSS and indicated that the cap of €5000 would be revisited.
