Social media reacts to Georgia-Florida relocation buzz

The Georgia-Florida game has long been linked to relocation rumors from fans and media personalities alike but up until SEC Meetings in Destin, Florida, nothing had gained traction from the head coaches of either program.

Coach Kirby Smart spoke to the media on Tuesday morning and mentioned the uncertainty of the game’s location past the year of 2021.

“You are always looking to see what you can do to make your program better,” Smart told DawgNation. “Nothing is off the table, but nothing has been decided.”

Florida’s Coach Dan Mullen had a bit of a different stance on the game, tending to lean more towards keeping it in Jacksonville. However, he did not rule out any changes after 2021.

“For us moving forward, I think it’s one of the really neat, unique games in all of college football. There’s not a lot of games where you have that, where you have the stadium split right down the middle at a neutral site like that and within a rivalry game. Makes it a lot of fun to play in Jacksonville.”

Mullen contradicted this statement with the following.

“You never know which direction college football is going in at that point. Because I think every other year — I can see (Smart’s) point of every other year you do lose an opportunity, one less home recruiting game every other year.”

While Smart, who played in the game from 1995 to 1998 as a defensive back seems to lean more toward home and home format, Mullen is pretty undecided.

Despite the stirred up buzz from the media on the relocation of the annual rivalry game, many fans are open to the potential changes.

Though it appears the majority of fans who have attended a Georgia-Florida game would like the event to stay in Jacksonville, a number do not. Here’s how people reacted on social media.
