Social media reacts to first-half of Arsenal v Dundalk in the Europa League

It was all going to plan for Dundalk until minutes before half-time against Arsenal.

The game remained goalless until Eddie Nketiah found the net for the Gunners in the 42nd minute before Joe Willock slotted home a second minutes later, giving Arsenal a 2-0 lead at the break.

But fans of the Premier League side were not one bit happy with how the game was going for most of the opening half and took to social media to vent their frustration.

One said: "Seeing Arsenal trying to tediously breakdown a clearly sub par Dundalk is painfully soul draining."

Someone else commented: "It’s taken us 40 minutes but finally some attacking intent. We’ve shown Dundalk an embarrassing amount of respect.

"We have 4 or 5 men stood on the half way line when we are attacking. Sounds like I’m moaning but you have to look ahead because this is the formation for the season."

Another added: "I swear we've made 10+ fouls in this half, don't think Dundalk's made even one."

One other Gunners fan posted: "Extremely boring, average performance against Dundalk, DUNDALK !!!Pepe has been soo poor in this 1st half, it's crazy. Not seeing anybody occupying the half spaces in the Dundalk formation. Still devoid of creativity as usual."

Another tweeted: "2-0 at half time really really flatters Arsenal and is unfair to Dundalk. The score can't cover up that we've been awful."

Meanwhile, Irish viewers were impressed with what they saw from Dundalk for most of the first 45 minutes.

One said: "For 40 minutes that was simple sensational stuff from Dundalk. Have you ever seen an Irish side play with such confidence against a team of that level? Sadly one mistake led to the second and Arsenal punished them. Gutted."

Another commented: "Dundalk their own worst enemy, giving two easy chances to Arsenal which of course they’re ere going to finish. After such a promising first 40 minutes of play too, shame really."
