Social media reacts to David Clifford's first half performance and that tackle

Kerry found themselves a point down to Tyrone at half time in Saturday's All-Ireland semi-final, but David Clifford was key to a lot of what was good about the Kingdom's first half performance.

The Fossa clubman and Sean O'Shea scored all of Kerry's nine scores between them in the opening 35 minutes and many have hailed Clifford's performance so far, with others feeling that Peter Keane's men are too reliant on him.

Joe Brolly tweeted: "Tyrone calm. Kerry panicking. Realising that Tyrone don’t give a damn about them. Kerry totally dependent on David Clifford. And the Son of God yet to appear.."

Another person said: "What would kerry do without Clifford, great player."

Someone else commented: "After everything that’s gone right for them so far in 2021, the first time Kerry are really tested, they revert to their 2020 failings all over again, so reliant on David Clifford in that half, but there’s time to get it right - they need to get that front six motoring sharpish!"

But some people believe Clifford should have been carded for a challenge on Conor Meyler in the dying seconds of the half, which resulted in Tyrone taking a lead into the break after Niall Morgan scored an outrageous point from the resulting free.

One person said: "David Clifford seems to be untouchable by refs. That was a dirty challenge and should have been carded."

Another comment read: "Surely one would think that is an attempt of a strike with an elbow by David Clifford??"
