Social media reacts to brilliant Ballymun Kickhams GAA documentary

Fans were loving a new RTE documentary 'Passing It On' tonight as it followed Dublin legend Paddy Christie's influence on Ballymun Kickham's GAA club.

The new documentary, which originally aired on eir Sport, looked at how Christie changed the lives of many in Ballymun through his work with the club.

Christie took over a Kickham's Under-10's team in 1996 and described how he focused on ensuring that all his players were kitted out.

Christie said: “You want to see them kitted out properly, that it’s done well. And then if you’re a parent you think well if that’s done right then probably the other stuff is done right - the training, the infrastructure.”

Nurturing the new generation, stars such as Philly McMahon, Alan Hubbard and Davy Byrne emerged from the North Dublin suburb as inter-county stars.

Seven-time All Ireland winner McMahon added: “You would play teams down the country and they’d come out looking at you going ‘Why do you all have the same boots? Why do you all have the same gloves? That was Paddy.

“It came from him begging, borrowing and stealing - whatever he had to do to get the lads gear. It was incredible.”

And fans took to social media to voice their opinions on the documentary.
