Social media reacts as The Den returns to RTE

The Den made a welcome return to Irish TV screens Sunday night with a host of special guests and the usual high jinks from Zig, Zag and Dustin the Turkey.

Ray D'Arcy was back in the presenter's chair for the first episode of the revamped show.

Judging by the positive Twitter reaction, the childhood favourite proved a relief for viewers fatigued from coronavirus coverage.

Mark Coughlan tweeted: "Seven minutes of Dustin in. I’m sold. I’m in.

"My cynicism is parked, I’m nine again."

Twitter user Kino added: "I'm a proper grown up adult person.

"But I'm not afraid to say that The Den is exactly what I, and I think the rest of the country, need right now.

"Already laughing my hole off."

Zig and Zag and Dustin poked fun at Ray and the show provided a trip down memory lane for two women who appeared on the show in the 90s after winning a Boyzone competition.

They were treated to a Zoom chat with Ronan Keating.

The nostalgia trip continued with the return of the birthday roll-out.

Four-year-old Tyrone farmer Darragh O'Neill also made an appearance with his brother and mum after going viral last month for his video describing how he's a "very busy man".

Irish comedian Dara O Briain also spoke from his London home about his new book Is There Anybody Out There?

Singer CMAT performed her song Another Day KFC in a phone box, to adhere to coronavirus restrictions.

The Den returns next Sunday November 15 on RTE One at 6.30pm.
