Social media reacts as Irish pub in Vancouver, Canada sells tins of Roses chocolates for $30

An Irish pub in Canada is selling tins of Cadbury's Roses for a whopping $30 over the Christmas season.

Donnellans Irish Pub in Vancouver, Canada, is selling the classic Irish Christmas treat to 'make your Christmas more like home'.

They said in a post on social media: "Just arrived. What better way to make your Christmas more like home than with a tin of Roses.

"We are after getting a shipment delivered by BC Bia.

"$30. Call into the pub."

The post included photos of the chocolate tins on their front bar.

The public had a mixed reaction to the post, with some claiming the price is too high, while others seem willing to fork out $30 for the treats.

One person responded to the post saying: "Wow, very expensive."

Another said "3 for 10 euro at the moment" to which the bar replied: "And 20 euro for a flight to Ireland to pick them up."

Others responded to the post saying "but worth 30 dollars" and "Oh my word. So many fond memories of these".

A Twitter user said: "The boom is in full flow in Vancouver."

A spokesperson for Donnellans Irish Pub told the Irish Mirror: "We are a busy bar in the heart of Vancouver, and we try our best to cater to the growing Irish community here. We are Irish owned and most of our management and staff are Irish.

"One thing we try to do is make the pub a gathering place for Irish clubs and teams, or people missing home and wanting a bit of community. Throughout the year we bring in chocolate bars and Tayto that people might miss from back home!

"This year we thought it would be great to bring in Roses, and luckily enough, BC Bia, a small Vancouver based business that imports Tayto and other Irish sweets (and is run by an amazing young Irish woman) was bringing them in!

"We have had a couple customers comment on the price. $30 recoups our cost and that's pretty much it.

Like with all the confectionery we sell, we are bringing the Roses in for our customers' nostalgia and convenience (to save them being shipped from home).

"I think if you went through a very large online retailer you might find them for a lower price, but we are really excited to support a small Irish business here in our Vancouver community."
