Social media full of praise as new Jack Charlton documentary airs on television

Social media users took a 'magical' trip down memory lane as a new documentary on Jack Charlton aired on TV screens tonight.

Finding Jack Charlton was filmed during the final 18 months of the former Ireland manager's life and it is an emotional and inspiring as it sounds.

Charlton passed away on July 10 last year, a year after being diagnosed with lymphoma, but he also battled dementia in his final years.

The Virgin Media One programme is an intimate and compelling portrait of Jack the man and the challenge faced by thousands of families, with contributions from his wife Pat and son John.

And it also recalls the glory days of Irish football under their charismatic manager and former World Cup winner. 

Among those who feature in the documentary are former players Niall Quinn and Paul McGrath. An emotional McGrath reveals his feelings for his former boss, telling the documentary: “He understood that I loved him.”
