Social media erupts as 'snooker ball-sized hail stones' hit Merseyside

Social media was sent into a frenzy this evening after "snooker ball-sized' hailstones hit Merseyside.

A flash of bad weather hit parts of Liverpool and Wirral as the region endures another cold and windy snap.

Following beautiful weather last week, we've seen rain, strong winds and now hailstones in a run of miserable weather that certainly doesn't feel befitting of a Bank Holiday in May.

One user on Twitter, Aaron, said: "What’s with these snooker ball sized hail stones?

"Thought the window was gonna come through when it started."

Sharing a dramatic video of the weather, WickedVintageUK said: "Soooooooo much hail."

Moody Driver, another user on Twitter, wrote: "We've got the hail storm from hell currently."

Dr Donna Jackson said: "Hail against the window! What a lovely sound for the first week in May!!"

And Wirral Weather shared a video saying: "Sharp bursts of hail on Wirral this evening."

The Met Office has warned we're not through the worst of the weather this week.

Forecasters said tomorrow's weather will be : "Further showery weather, brighter than Tuesday but slightly cooler.

"A mixture of sunny spells, and scattered showers, occasionally heavy.

"Remaining cold overnight, with another widespread frost likely.

"Maximum temperature 10C."
