Social media company respond to criticism surrounding Man City star Phil Foden Mbappe tweet

The social media firm formerly in charge of Phil Foden's account have hit back, insisting that all messages are approved before being published.

The Manchester City star cut ties with Ten Toes Media after a post on his Twitter account emerged minutes after City secured their place in the Champions League semi-finals.

Foden's account tagged PSG star Mbappe with the message 'are you ready', leaving the Englishman and his representatives reportedly incensed. The tweet has since been deleted.

Foden has now left the agency, according to The Telegraph, insisting that the message was sent out without his consent.

However, Ten Toes Media, who are associated with world stars such as Harry Kane, Victor Lindelof and Vinicius Jr, have responded, insisting all posts are given the green light, with no exceptions.

“We are saddened with the current situation," they wrote in a statement, published on Twitter.

"Since the company was founded we have adopted a process which requires all posts to be approved in advance by the talent/representative – no exceptions.

"They always have been approved - that has been true for 4 years and is still true today.

"Phil Foden is a special person and footballer and we wish him the very best going forward."

Former Manchester United defender Gary Neville has been a vocal critic of players that don't run their own social channels.

"I mentioned on here a few weeks ago about players having their accounts run by social media companies," he tweeted after the incident.

"Lads run your own accounts! Your independent thought and authenticity is at stake. It’s your voice, not anyone else’s."
