Social Investment Scotland names new communications manager

Profit-with-purpose organisation Social Investment Scotland (SIS) has hired Nicola Boyle as its communications manager.

Boyle joins from Emerald Works, a global provider of research and learning resources, having previously worked for Changeworks, the environmental charity and social enterprise.

She will focus on stakeholder engagement, digital communication, and multimedia content production, and support the delivery of SIS's 10-year Building an Impact Economy 2030 strategy to provide social entrepreneurs with investment and support.

Since 2001, SIS has invested nearly £82 million in more than 400 impactful businesses and has supported more than 5,000 social entrepreneurs. Its SIS Ventures arm has backed businesses including Brewgooder, Cyan Forensics and Talking Medicines.

Boyle said: “The Covid-19 pandemic has highlighted the need for an economy that values both GDP and wellbeing. More than ever, this is a crucial time for the social enterprise sector.

"I am delighted to be joining SIS, an organisation I have admired for its important work in Scotland’s pioneering social sector. I am looking forward to engaging with our customers and partners and spreading the word on SIS’s creative and effective solutions that make a real, measurable and sustainable impact upon people’s lives.”

Lindsay Wake, head of impact at SIS, added: “Nicola’s appointment comes at a crucial time for SIS as we make progress towards our long-term vision to create an impact economy – particularly as Scotland recovers from the impact of Covid-19. Communicating with our partners and highlighting our relationships with some of Scotland’s most impactful enterprises will be a key part of that.”
