Award winning social enterprise Brighter Futures Workshop, based in Skelmersdale, has been chosen by the one of the world's biggest business advice firms to be part of a £1m investment programme, reports champnews.com. The organisation, which provides opportunities for adults and young people and refurbishes mobility equipment, has been named as one of the members of Deloitte's Social Innovation Pioneers programme.
Secret Millionaire: South Leeds' community spirit shines through
Channel Four's The Secret Millionaire programme visited the Cardinal Estate in Leeds, spending time with social entrepreneur Yvonne Crowther. Theatrical producer David King coughed up £17,000 for Yvonne's social enterprise to create a community hairdressers and cafe which will help unemployed youngsters gain skills and qualifications, reports South Leeds Life.

Dowser reports that the Unreasonable Institute, an incubator for social enterprise start-ups from around the world, has teamed up with Stanford's d.school and the study abroad program Semester At Sea to offer a unique business development experience for technology-focused social entrepreneurs: the Unreasonable Institute at Sea.
'Vine' winner of McKinsey Innovate
A team of Cambridge University students in the UK won the McKinsey Innovate 2012 social enterprise competition with a solution to help small tomato farmers in Mexico improve yields, reports Business Weekly. The Ethical Tomato Company won the annual £5,000 'seed' funding prize for UK university students sponsored by global management consultancy firm McKinsey & Company.
