Revealed: private firm's slice of NHS hospital savings

A row has broken out over a debt-ridden NHS hospital being handed over to a private company that will keep a large chunk of the millions of pounds in savings it will seek to make, reports the Guardian. Bosses at Circle, which is running the Hinchingbrooke Health Care Trust in Cambridgeshire, have insisted they will improve standards despite claims that they will need to make what have been described as "eye-watering" cuts.

Experts aid teen on career path

A teenager out of work since leaving school has secured a job at his very first interview thanks to help from a team of employment experts, reports the Doncaster Free Press. One-to-one coaching, volunteering experience and a mock interview provided by Doncaster West Development Trust (DWDT) all proved invaluable to 19-year-old Louis Stacey.

Save the planet marketing 'won't change consumer behaviour'

Brands rolling out catch-all "save the planet" initiatives, such as Procter & Gamble's 'Future Friendly' drive, will fall foul of consumer complacency, according to new research. The study, by social enterprise Behaviour Change, looked at the current state of green consumer behaviour in the UK, covering everything from loft insulation to flying, using a nationally representative sample of 1,000-plus qualitative fieldwork, reports Marketing Magazine.

Author and Columbia University instructor Brian Reich argues on dowser.org that too many organizations impede progress toward solving the world's most pressing problems. He argues that people need to use existing models to target specific needs or issues, through flexible structures rather than permanent ones.
