Business Rx: Social enterprise needs advice on how to land first clients

Students Dipti Badrinath, Stephanie Cantor, Abby Murray, Nikita Shenoy and Scott Shuffield are true to their millennial generation character — they didn't want to choose between an altruistic career path and working for a for-profit corporation. They united to create a venture that could allow them to help companies meet philanthropic corporate goals while connecting with employees. Their venture, called Triple Impact, helps Fortune 500 companies offer employees global service trips to help underserved communities.

Concerns over social enterprise funding

Questions have been raised over the 'value for money' of a social enterprise which caters for the over 50s. Green county councillor Mark Ereira-Guyer highlighted his concerns over Suffolk Circle, which has secured £680,000 of investment from Suffolk County Council. It comes ahead of an investigation by the authority's scrutiny committee into what has been learnt from the first year of the organisation.

Community Foundation of Utah awards inaugural social enterprise grants

The Community Foundation of Utah is honoring the innovative work of 20 purpose-driven Utah organizations with a share of the foundation's inaugural $10,000 Social Enterprise Grant. Individual grants range in amounts from $500 to $1000 and support Utah organizations working to strengthen their communities, support families and children or protect the state's wildlife and environmental resources through specific programs or projects.

Southwest Key Social Enterprise Complex aims to provide East Austin families with jobs

The grand opening of a new facility where an Austin-based nonprofit organization plans to help unemployed parents find jobs had families on their feet Saturday, rallied by one repeated goal: "getting East Austin back to work." Juan Sanchez, president of Southwest Key Programs, which runs programs for more than 6,500 at-risk youth and families in six states, cast the new Social Enterprise Complex as an economic powerhouse that will create at least 160 jobs in the next five years.
