Netflix is set to release a show called produced entirely remotely to abide by the rules of social distancing during the coronavirus pandemic.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the programme will be called Social Distance and Orange is the New Black creator Jenji Kohan will executive produce with her team.

True to its name, the scripted anthology series will be created with all involved working from their own homes.

“Our job as storytellers is to reflect reality, and in this new, bizarre, bewildering reality we are all experiencing, we feel passionate about finding connection as we all remain at a distance,” producers said in a statement.

“We’ve been inspired to create an anthology series that tells stories about the current moment we are living through — the unique, personal, deeply human stories that illustrate how we are living apart, together.

“We are challenging ourselves to do something new: To create and produce virtually so that our cast and crew can stay healthy and safe.”

Writers won’t meet physically during the creation process, and director Diego Velasco will officiate remotely.

Actors will film themselves, and showrunner Hilary Weisman Graham will intervene from her living room.

“The experience of social distancing is currently universal, but no individual story is the same,” the producers added.

“Through a broad spectrum of tales and moments, some seismic and some mundane, we hope to capture a moment in time. And we hope that Social Distance will help people feel closer to one another.”

The coronavirus crisis has caused TV shows to halt in-person production.

Some programmes such as Saturday Night Live have successfully released special episodes filmed remotely.
