Soccer fans seen climbing on new Bears statues

The Chicago Bears can’t seem to catch a break this week.

Prior to the team’s 10-3 loss to the Green Bay Packers, the Bears unveiled new statues of George Halas and Walter Payton outside Soldier Field as a tribute to the football greats for the team’s 100th anniversary.

But to use the old phrase “this is why we can’t have nice things,” it appears people are already using the new structures as a jungle gym.

According to the Chicago Police Scanner, fans attending the Chivas Guadalajara and Club America soccer game at Soldier Field on Sunday evening were seen climbing on the new statues.

Naturally, Bears fans came out in full force on Twitter to share their thoughts about the extracurricular activities.

It’s obviously not the worst fan behavior coming out of a sporting event, but after the week the Bears have had, the activities add insult to injury.

The Halas and Payton statues were unveiled to the public on September 3rd, paying tribute to arguably the two greatest individuals in Bears history. The statues are 12 feet tall and can be seen just outside Soldier Field.
