Soccer community reacts to the terror attacks in Brussels

March 22--Sometimes things like soccer just don't matter. Especially after tragedies like Tuesday's terror attacks in Brussels that left at least 31 people dead and many more injured.

Belgium's national soccer team canceled practice Tuesday, just a week before a friendly match against Portugal.

"Our thoughts are with the victims. Football is not important today," the Belgian soccer federation tweeted. "Training cancelled."

The friendly match, which is supposed to be a warmup for the European Championship later this year, is scheduled for March 29 at the King Baudouin Stadium in Brussels. Belgium's capital city also was the location of Tuesday's practice.

Security arrangements are being made for the match, the Portuguese soccer federation said.

But right now soccer is the furthest thing from anyone's mind.

"Horrified and revolted. Innocent people paying the price again. My thoughts are with the families of the victims," national team captain Vinent Kopany tweeted.

He added: "I wish for Brussels to act with dignity. We are all hurting, yet we must reject hate and its preachers. As hard as it may be. "

Other members of the national team shared their thoughts and prayers Tuesday morning on Twitter.
