Soccer commentator Gary Neville slams Super League plans: ‘It’s pure greed’

The forming of a new breakaway European soccer Super League has set the sport’s world on fire.

There are so many players, executives and commentators who think this is a horrible idea, with big name teams from all over Europe — Barcelona, Real Madrid, Manchester City, Manchester United, Liverpool, Chelsea, AC Milan, Tottenham Hotspur, Arsenal, Internazionale, Juventus and Atletico Madrid among them — breaking away from the European Club Association (and, in effect, causing some serious trouble with the Champions League).

One of the critics is Gary Neville, a Sky Sports commentator who also starred for Manchester United during his playing career. He delivered a scathing rant with his thoughts:

“I’m a Manchester United fan and have been for 40 years of my life, but I’m disgusted, absolutely disgusted. I’m disgusted with Manchester United and Liverpool the most. Liverpool, they pretend, you know, ‘You’ll Never Walk Alone, the people’s club, the fans’ club.’ Manchester United, 100 years, borne out of workers around here, and they’re breaking away into a league without competition, that they can’t be relegated from. It’s an absolute disgrace … It’s pure greed. They’re imposters.”

Listen to the whole thing. Trust me.
