Soccer Aid: Piers Morgan hails football win 'the greatest night of his life' as he mocks Susanna Reid's loss

Piers Morgan hailed his Soccer Aid victory as the “greatest night of his life” after securing victory over Susanna Reid.

The Good Morning Britain presenters went head-to-head in the annual UNICEF football match, with Morgan the winning manager in charge of the World team.

After their penalty shoot out victory, Morgan was held aloft by his ecstatic team and later celebrated his victory on social media.

“Greatest night of my life. @socceraid,” the 54-year-old wrote on Twitter.

He also shared a picture with his silver plate, next to a disgruntled Reid on the ITV breakfast show – which Morgan made sure to fill with his gloating.

At the top of Monday’s show, Morgan showed off his trophy as he paraded around the studio to Queen classic We Are The Champions followed by Simply The Best by Tina Turner.

“Well done Piers. I’m so pleased for you,” Reid managed through gritted teeth. “We were winning 2-0 for such a significant proportion of the game. And deserved to win.”

Mocking Morgan, Reid said: “I love the fact you take it all as a personal glory. It was a team effort!”

Mark Wright, he played for Reid’s England XI, branded Morgan’s win “lucky” before “promising him faithfully” that his motivational speech did not help his team at all – putting their win down to their keeper.

Sunday night’s game at Stamford Bridge has raised a record-breaking £6,774,764 so far, through public donations and the government.

After ending in a 2-2 draw, the match went to penalties to be decided for the second year in a row with Morgan’s team winning 3-2.

Good Morning Britain airs weekdays at 6am on ITV.
