Sober Paul Danan turned down Celebs Go Dating for fear of being tempted by booze

Paul Danan has admitted to turning down a stint on Celebs Go Dating for fear of a relapse.

The 41-year-old actor stopped drinking booze in 2012 and has been sober ever since, but worried that appearing on the reality show would tempt him into slipping up.

As a recovering alcoholic he said that going on dates with girls who are drinking while he was on soft drinks and water meant he feared that things wouldn't end well.

The ex-Hollyoaks star told the podcast Secure The Insecure that he was offered a slot on the E4 show and explained why he decided to give it a miss.

He did however say that he hoped he'd be ready to take part in the next series.

"I’m just on this path at the moment where I kind of I don’t want that shown on screen at the moment until I feel more comfortable."

He explained: "I was gonna do Celebs Go Dating the new season and I didn't in the end because I didn’t think I was in the right place to do and I don’t think they did as well," he said on the podcast.

"I don’t want to going on dates with birds getting p****d and me sitting there drinking Coca-Cola and water them all being then just shagging birds or getting with someone for the sake of the show and just forced upon you."

Paul added: "I just think I would probably want her glass of wine and all the other drinks that everyone else was drinking and it would be just too awkward.

"And I don’t need that temptation."

Paul, who starred in the original series of Celebrity Love Island, said that he struggled with his stint in Celebrity Big Brother 2017, and was close to relapse.
