'Sober' James Argent offered Mojito by Kate Garraway on awkward GMB debut

James Argent was forced to turn down a Mojito at 6am this morning as he made his Good Morning Britain debut.

Hosts Richard Madeley and Kate Garraway got Bank Holiday Monday's show off to a boozy start by cracking open M&S Mojito cans in honour of Diane Abbott , who was Diane Abbott sorry for swigging mojito on London train - but loads of people love it on a tube train over the weekend.

But Arg had to refuse to join in the presenters' round after Kate poured him a glass in awkward scenes.

"Would you like to try a bit?" asked Kate. "Come on!" she urged.

Batting the glass away with his hand, Arg replied: "Do you know what? I’m going to say no because I’m eight months clean and sober!"

"Are you? Is that a decision you made?" quizzed Kate.

31-year-old Arg then confirmed that he's been sober for the last eight months.

But the TOWIE star defended Abbott's drinking on the tube at the weekend.

"I’m not against her having a good time!" he said. "I was actually thinking is she an Essex girl! It’s very much an Essex girl thing to do – a little cheeky mojito on the tube."

Kate quickly apologised to Arg while Richard Madeley announced that he's been sober since November.

Though Richard, standing in for regular Piers Morgan, joked that the cocktail sampling 'didn't count.'

Arg last entered rehab to tackle his demons in August 2018.

In a statement released at the time he said: "It's not been an easy time but I’m happy to be back in a programme that gives me the ongoing support I need.

"I’m thankful for the incredible support I have received from my family, close friends and colleagues."

Arg, who is filling in for showbiz editor Richard Arnold this week on GMB, also spent three months in a facility in Thailand in 2016.

He has also spent time in The Priory for alleged drink and drug issues.
