'Sob on the Tyne is all mine' - Newcastle fans react to Steve Bruce appointment

Newcastle United fans are not impressed with Steve Bruce's appointment as Newcastle manager.

Bruce has been appointed as Newcastle manager on an initial three-year deal and his assistants Steve Agnew and Stephen Clemence will join him in the North East from Sheffield Wednesday.

After being appointed, he said:  "I’m delighted and incredibly proud to be appointed as head coach of Newcastle United.

"This is my boyhood club and it was my dad’s club, so this is a very special moment for me and my family.

"There is a huge challenge ahead of us, but it’s one that my staff and I are ready for.

"We’ll roll our sleeves up and we’ll be giving it everything from the off to ensure supporters have a successful team that they can be proud of."

But fans are not as excited about the prospect of Bruce, having enjoyed three years of watching Newcastle under Rafa Benitez - one of the game's most decorated managers.

Alan Murphy tweeted: "Going from Rafa Benitez, oil money, a bid for Mbappe and hope to Steve Bruce and probable relegation in a few weeks is the equivalent of swapping a Kinder Bueno for an apple in primary school."

Steve added: "Steve Bruce, just saying that makes me laugh nervously."

James Simpson continued: "So Steve Bruce is apparently the man, not what everyone wanted but who would with an owner like Ashley? Be another frustrating season if this takeover doesn’t go through."

And Dom Richards said: "Steve Bruce is the new @NUFC Manager. Sob on the Tyne is all mine, all mine. Sob on the Tyne is all mine...
From Rafa to Bruce - I can't help feeling this season isn't going to go well."
