When Luke and Alison Logan bought a large parcel of rare vacant land in Charlestown seven years go, the property was completely overgrown.
The pair, who had both grown up in the country, were looking for some space in a convenient location and Luke said the 3140 square metre block at 7 Green Valley Road "ticked a lot of boxes".
They were pleasantly surprised to discover something quite unique in a freshwater creek that runs through the leafy property all year round when they starting cleaning up the "mess".
A four-bedroom home was designed to make the most of its natural surrounds - the natural light, bush outlook and the freshwater spring. There is also a freestanding double garage with a granny flat.
While the project was a big one, it proved a rewarding one with the result somewhat of an urban retreat.
"It's so peaceful," Luke said. "At night, all you can hear is running water."
The couple have bought a farm in Gunnedah and are selling their Charlestown home.
It is being marketed by Luke Searles, of Laing + Simmons, with a guide of $1.6 million.

Hidden oasis in Hamilton
Radio personality Jess Farchione, from hit106.9's Nick, Jess and Ducko breakfast show, and husband Angus Harper have relished the garden tranquility of their home in Hamilton which has been listed for sale with PRD Newcastle and Lake Macquarie's Natalie Tonks.
The two-storey home at 25 Cameron Street is located within footsteps of bustling Beaumont Street and minutes to Newcastle's CBD.

Listings over $1 million
McGrath New Lambton have listed a three-bedroom house on an 869 square metre block at 35 Knight Street in New Lambton with a guide of $1.1 million to $1.2 million.
A brand new three-bedroom, two-bathroom townhouse at 3/1 Jenner Parade in Hamilton South is being marketed by Walkom Real Estate for $1.25 million.
Belle Property Lake Macquarie have launched two Speers Point homes to market. Guides are yet to be set but expectations are believed to be around $1.1 million for a three-bedroom Federation cottage on an 809 square metre block at 36 Albert Street. A five-bedroom brick residence with stunning lake views and a pool at 26 Farm Street is expected to attract interest around $1.8 million.
PRD Newcastle and Lake Macquarie are guiding $1.1 million for a renovated three-bedroom house at 63 Freyberg Street in New Lambton.
Listings $500,000 to $1 million
Expectations are believed to be in the low $900,000s for a three-bedroom house with a leafy outlook at 41a Barina Avenue, Kilaben Bay listed through Belle Property Lake Macquarie.
Belle also have a four-bedroom home adjacent to Cockle Creek at 82 Ridley Street in Edgeworth on the market with a guide of $650,000 to $710,000.
First National Newcastle City are marketing a five-bedroom house on a 1009 square metre block at 9 Woden Close in Cardiff for $775,000.
Listings under $500,000
Belle Property are guiding $480,000 to $528,000 for a two-bedroom townhouse at 7/46-48 Lachlan Road in Cardiff. LaneCampos have a one-bedroom apartment at 104/37 Donald Street, Hamilton for $420,000 to $460,000.
