In a display of sucking-up even a particularly loyal Labour backbencher might blanch at, he asked his boss what she thought the reason was behind the BBC 10 O'Clock News' "superb achievement" in pulling in more than a million more viewers than ITV's News at Ten. With arguably more than a hint of sarcasm, Marr acclaimed the question as a "savaging".
