'So it begins' - Edinburgh Home Bargains mocked for putting out Christmas decorations in August

After being in hibernation for most of 2020, the majority of the population are confused at how it's already the end of August.

With most still mentally in March, just the thought of Christmas is enough to make you shudder.

However, for others it seems that those jingle bells are already ringing, as one Edinburgh store proved this week.

After a visit to Home Bargains on Monday, one local resident was shocked to see an entire display of Christmas stock already on the shelves.

Bath and body sets, stuffed toy penguins and 2020 advent calendars can all be seen standing proudly in the store, with the picture quickly posted on Reddit.

Instantly others were just as shocked to see the Christmas items making an appearance so early, with one user commenting "so it begins".

One commenter also questioned why Christmas stock is available before Halloween, to which another user replied:

"Oh, Halloween is cancelled. It was decided that this year has been scary enough."

Another said: "Why would you ruin my day like this?"

After spending most of the year at home, one local joked: "I initially assumed it was left over unsold decorations from last Xmas since mentally I'm still in April."

One Reddit user also hilariously spotted the huge crisp box that had been dumped in the display, commenting:

"My favourite part of Christmas has always been when the family gathers together around the box of Salt and Vinegar crisps on Christmas Eve. Such happy, acidic memories!"
