Unless you’ve been living in a cave for the last few hours (or you know, working), it’s hard to miss the news: the new GTA 6 trailer has just dropped. And even better, it’s come with a release date: May 26, 2026.
Alongside the footage of the new main characters – Jason and Lucia – living it large in Vice City, one of the most striking elements of the trailer is the song: a easy, groove-heavy track that conjures to mind lazy summer days in the city.
Which, appropriately, is what the game is all about.
Though it’s not a well-known song, it’s actually a pretty iconic one: a 1986 song called Hot Together by the Pointer Sisters, an all-female group of sisters from California who shot to fame in the 1970s and 80s.
It’s taken from their album of the same name; these days, the group is formed of original member Ruth, with Issa and Sadako (her daughter and granddaughter).
The GTA games are famous for their excellent musical taste – not least thanks to the franchise’s iconic in-game radio stations, which blast iconic tracks as well as rather unhinged adverts and news alerts from the in-game radio hosts.
The only other song that’s been confirmed for GTA 6 so far is Love is a Long Road by Tom Petty, which formed the soundtrack to the first trailer, which dropped in December last year.
However, GTA 5 featured tracks from bands like Def Leppard, The Black-Eyed Peas and a Dr Dre and Snoop Dogg collab – promising big things for the new game.
Though the game is still a way away, the release of the new trailer – as well as new information on the Rockstar website – has of course sent the internet into a tailspin. The Rockstar site is currently crashing, but fortunately the video’s description hints at what our two new heroes might be up to.
"Vice City, USA," it reads. "Jason and Lucia have always known the deck is stacked against them. But when an easy score goes wrong, they find themselves on the darkest side of the sunniest place in America, in the middle of a criminal conspiracy stretching across the state of Leonida — forced to rely on each other more than ever if they want to make it out alive."
