Snyder offers support for Texas' embattled coach Strong

Kansas State football coach Bill Snyder, seen offering encouragement to embattled Texas counterpart Charlie Strong as the teams left the field following Saturday's 24-21 victory by the Wildcats in Manhattan, Kan., indicated Monday that he considers Strong an asset to the college game and is rooting for him to succeed in Austin.

"I think he's a good guy. I like his value system and how he works with young people," Snyder said during Monday's conference call with Big 12 coaches when asked about his post-game exchange with Strong.

Strong, in his third season at Texas, has a combined mark of 14-18 at the school and is on the hot seat as the Longhorns (3-4, 1-3 in Big 12) prepare for Saturday's game in Austin against No. 8 Baylor (6-0, 3-0).

Asked how he felt about the pressure Strong faces in only his third season, Snyder said: "I come down on the side of the fact that college football has gotten out of control and it's no longer about young people."
