SNP takes former Depute Provost's seat from Labour in by-election

SNP candidate Thomas Ullathorne has won the East Livingston and East Calder by-election, taking the historically Labour seat.

He was declared winner this morning after polling 1890 votes - 805 more than closest rival Conservative David Philip, who polled 1085 votes.

Labour's Danny Logue took 969 votes.

The by-election was called following the death of Depute Provost, Dave King.

Councillor King, who was 79 when he died, represented Labour for the East Livingston and East Calder ward on West Lothian Council.

He had been a councillor since 1992, representing the East Calder ward on West Lothian’s District Council.

Neal Drummond (Green party) polled 336 votes and Hans Edington of the Liberal Democrats won 118 votes.

A total of 4493 votes were cast - 25.1 per cent of the electorate.
