SNP slam Ruth Davidson as she is sworn in to House of Lords as Baroness of Lundin Links

Ruth Davidson has been sworn in to the House of Lords as Baroness Davidson of Lundin Links.

The former Scottish Conservative leader took her oath in a short ceremony as Lords business got underway on Tuesday.

Davidson, dressed in ermine robes as is customary for swearing in, took the title of her childhood home in Fife as her title.

She was flanked by supporters Lord Keen of Elie, the former Advocate General for Scotland, and Lord McInnes of Kilwinning, who recently announced he was stepping down as director of the Scottish Conservatives to advise the Prime Minister on the Union.

A small cheer welcomed her to the chamber after she took her oath, but outside the Lords the SNP slammed Davidson for a sell-out to Boris Johnson.

An SNP spokesperson said: "The ex-leader once responsible for a Scottish Tory operation to keep Boris Johnson out of Downing Street has now completely sold out, bought off by the Prime Minister's gift of a lucrative lifetime seat in the Lords."

""For her own financial gain she is perpetuating an archaic and undemocratic system where she will sit cheek-by-jowl with multi-millionaires who have gifted fortunes to the Tories and are rewarded in turn with the ability to impose laws on the people of this country without ever being elected."

The SNP official added: "The Lords should be scrapped and Baroness Davidson should hang her head in shame for participating in such a democratic outrage."
