Renfrewshire North and West SNP candidate Natalie Don has pledged to "set things straight" in a constituency which has received poor representation in Holyrood over the past 18 months.
Miss Don - who is currently a councillor in Renfrewshire - is hoping to hold onto the seat for the SNP and replace the former finance secretary Derek Mackay as the MSP.
Mr Mackay - who quit the SNP earlier this year - has not been seen in the Scottish Parliament since it emerged last January he had been hounding a 16-year-old boy on social media with unwanted messages.
But the former council leader has continued to collect his salary and claim expenses.
Speaking to the Local Democracy Reporting Service during the count at Braehead Arena, Miss Don vowed to be an accessible representative for the area.
She said: "I will set things straight.
"I've always said that throughout my whole campaign. I want to be an approachable and accessible MSP and one who’s focused on the issues that matter to people in Renfrewshire North and West.
"That’s what I’ve tried to do as a councillor and I think I’ve delivered on that. I am absolutely committed to the people of Renfrewshire North and West."
The SNP has already held a number of seats across the country as counts continue to come to a conclusion throughout the day.
Miss Don said she was feeling nervous but said the team had every reason to be upbeat.
She added: "I’m pretty on edge, I’ve definitely got butterflies. The whole campaign has been leading up to this. It finished last night and normally the count would take place just after so we’ve had a bit of time to reflect.
"We’ve got our folk on the ground and it’s looking fairly positive. What’s been quite positive is we’ve seen a higher turnout, I don’t know if that’s because more young people are turning out to vote or just more people are feeling that this election really is one of the most important in Scotland’s history."
