A Scottish MP has been delighted to learn that he has become a grandfather during lockdown.
Drew Hendry said he is itching to meet his new grandson who was born as a “surprise baby” last week.
Hendry has revealed how he became a first-time grandfather after his son Ross and partner Gill, who live in Edinburgh, gave birth to a son though they did not even know she was pregnant.
The Inverness, Nairn, Badenoch and Strathspey MP disclosed how he was taken aback by the news that Gill delivered a “stealth baby” that no one was expecting.
He told the BBC’s Emma Barnett: “We had a baby that nobody was expecting. It’s one of those phenomenon known as a stealth baby. So wee Cameron Hendry has not met his grandfather yet.”
The 56-year-old MP added: “It just came as a complete surprise about a week ago, I got a phone call from my son Ross to tell me that his partner Jill had been taken to hospital ill and now we have a brand new grandson.”
The so-called cryptic pregnancy is when a woman does not find out that she’s pregnant until 20 weeks along or sometimes until she begins to feel contractions before birth. The condition affects about one in 450 mothers-to-be.
Hendry said: “They’re all very health and very happy but of course I am absolutely itching to actually get to meet him.”
