SNP MP Angus MacNeil in car crash that left teen motorcyclist injured

SNP MP Angus MacNeil is at the centre of a police investigation following a road crash on the Isle of Barra that left a teenage motorcyclist with a broken leg.

The controversial nationalist MP was involved in collision with a 17-year-old motorcyclist last Friday night in Castlebay, the main town on the Hebridean island he lives on.

The smash occurred outside Castlebay Community School on the Isle of Barra, according to Police Scotland.

A police spokesman said: “About 7.08pm on Friday, 30 October, 2020, a two vehicle road traffic crash happened on the A888 near Castlebay Community School, Isle of Barra.”

“A Ford Focus car was in collision with a motorcycle. The 17-year-old male rider of the motorcycle suffered a non-life threatening injury and was taken to hospital. Nobody else was injured.”

The spokesman added: “Enquiries to establish the full circumstances of the crash are ongoing.”

MacNeil, who is a native of the island, has been SNP MP for the Western Isles since 2005.

The outspoken SNP MP has backed calls for a Plan B for independence which would involve staging a referendum without authorisation from the Westminster government.
