SNP MP Amy Callaghan undergoes emergency surgery after collapsing at home with a brain haemorrhage

An MP from the Scottish Nationalist Party was found at home by her partner after suffering from a brain haemorrhage.

28-year-old Amy Callaghan was rushed to hospital where she was taken in for emergency surgery.

The East Dunbartonshire MP, who is a cancer survivor ,has pulled through the operation and is said to be in a "stable condition"

A statement reads: “Thanks to the immense skill and response of the medical team involved in her care, Amy was able to successfully pull through the operation and is now is now stable in hospital"

Callaghan developed skin cancer when she was just 19-years-old and after beating it twice she went to become a high-profile SNP MP.

The MP famously robbed Liberal Democrats leader Jo Swinson of her seat in the snap December election in 2019 at just 27-years-old.

The MP got involved with politics after a long journey with skin cancer which saw the disease spread to her bones, nerves and muscle.

Callaghan beat the disease before relapsing again aged 21 and she credits the NHS for saving her life twice in the past.

Cancer saw her have surgery on her face which removed some of her nerves and a chunk of bone - it is not yet known if this is related to the recent brain haemorrhage.
