SNP MP Amy Callaghan leaves hospital four months after collapsing with brain haemorrhage

Amy Callaghan, the Scottish MP struck down with a brain haemorrhage in June, has been discharged from hospital and declared she is "coming home".

The East Dunbartonshire MP broke the news with celebratory message on social media showing her brandishing a walking stick outside hospital.

She said: "I was wheeled in here. Now I'm walking out."

The SNP politician has been undergoing intensive rehabilitation following two life-saving surgeries and praised the "miracle" care of the NHS.

She tweeted: "After 4 months in hospital, today I"ve been discharged. I'm coming home. To the miracle team at NHS Glasgow and Cylde -  now my second family - thank you. I can never, ever repay you."

Amy was rushed to hospital on June 10 after being found at home by her partner.

The 28-year-old, who has previously fought cancer, was elected to the House of Commons last December after ousting Liberal Democrat leader Jo Swinson from her East Dunbartonshire seat.

Callaghan, who was treated for skin cancer aged 19, became MP at the snap election in one of the biggest political upsets of the night.

Reacting on social media, First Minister Nicola Sturgeon, the SNP leader, said it was the "best news of the day".
