SNP MP Alan Brown tells House of Commons 'crap' Brexit deal is a ‘get it up ye” to Scotland

An SNP MP has come under fire after telling the House of Commons that Boris Johnson’s Brexit deal is “crap” and is a ‘get it up ye” to Scotland.

Kilmarnock and Loudoun MP Alan Brown made the comments as an SNP amendment calling for the European Union (Withdrawal Agreement) Bill to fall because the Scottish Parliament refused its consent has been rejected. It was defeated by a majority of 267 on Thursday.

This came on the day the UK's exit from the European Union on January 31 moved a step closer after Boris Johnson's

The European Union (Withdrawal Agreement) Bill was voted through on its third reading by 330 votes to 231, a majority of 99.

The comfortable victory for the Prime Minister followed the influx of new Tory MPs and is in marked contrast to the tortuous attempts to steer a Brexit bill through the Commons before the December general election.

That process led to the downfall of Theresa May after her deal was rejected three times in the Commons by MPs.

And responding to the suggestion that the SNP and Labour should have voted for May’s deal if they didn’t like Johnson’s one, Brown said: “Isn’t it ironic that the Conservatives are now saying ‘You should have voted for our crap deal and, no luck, we’ve made the deal even crappier. So get it up ye!

“Does that not sum it right up.”

Kilmarnock and Loudoun MP Alan Brown caused a stooshie online with his comments (Kilmarnock standard)

Fellow SNP MP Pete Wishart stepped in after Brown’s comments and said: “My Honourable friend has a very delicate use of phrase, and I have to say that nothing could be put more elegantly than that.

“That is well understood from this side of the House.”

However, Brown’s use of Scots vernacular caused a stooshie online with people split over his choice of words.

Some found the comments hilarious while others complained that the MP was “an embarrassment to Scotland” after the video of his quote was posed on Twitter.
