SNP minister Jenny Gilruth marries former Labour leader Kezia Dugdale

Jenny Gilruth and Kezia Dugdale tied the knot in Fife

SNP minister Jenny Gilruth has married former Scottish Labour leader Kezia Dugdale.

The couple, who announced in July 2017 they had been dating for a few months, tied the knot at a ceremony in Fife in front of friends and family.

Among guests at the event were Rural Affairs Secretary Mairi Gougeon, former SNP constitution secretary Michael Russell and ex-Scottish Labour leader Iain Gray.

The pair told the Courier: “This was a wonderfully happy day for us, and we were blessed to share it with family and friends.

“Thank you to everyone who made our day so special.”

Russell said: “It was a wonderful day – congratulations again and every good wish for your future happiness.”

The ceremony was held in the walled garden at Teasses Estate, Ceres.

Back in 2017, First Minister Nicola Sturgeon wished Gilruth and Dugdale every happiness after they revealed they were together, tweeting: “So love really does conquer all!”

Sturgeon also tweeted her congratulations to the couple after they got hitched saying: "Many congratulations to Jenny and Kez."

Dugdale resigned from her post as Scottish Labour leader in August 2017.

She quit Holyrood altogether in 2019 to become director of the John Smith Centre for Public Service, based at the University of Glasgow.

Gilruth worked as a teacher in Edinburgh and Dunfermline before being elected as the SNP MSP for Mid Fife and Glenrothes in 2016.

She was named transport minister in January, having previously served as minister for culture, Europe and international development since 2020.

Several MSPs including Christina McKelvie, Natalie Don, and Rona Mackay sent their congratulations to the happy couple.

Labour MSP Monica Lennon tweeted “Lovely news. Congratulations @kezdugdale and @JennyGilruth”.
