SNP member who helps oversee party conduct quits after comparing Israel with Nazis

An SNP member who helps oversee party conduct has quit after comparing Israel with Nazis.

Denise Findlay left the party over her posts on social media.

On Twitter yesterday, she wrote: “I’ve had to resign from the SNP. There are tweets where I’m arguing that Israel=Nazi should not be part of the definition of anti-semitism.”

The claims were aired on TV last night by Channel 4 News.

It follows the SNP leadership’s decision to over his sharing of an allegedly anti-Semitic post online.

And yesterday a union leader claimed he’d been snubbed by the First Minister after demanding action against a suspended councillor.

In November, the SNP’s Frank Anderson was barred by the Standards Commission from attending West Lothian Council meetings for three months.

He had shared an allegedly anti-Semitic article online which also referred to Jewish trade unionist Rhea Wolfson, a former Labour candidate.

GMB Scotland organiser Gary Smith said Nicola Sturgeon must now take action in the SNP.

Smith accepted there had been a “belated apology” but called for further penalties.

Smith said: “This simply isn’t consistent with a zero tolerance approach to hate.”
