SNP looking for Ian and Iain to hold on to Perth seats at November by-election

The Scottish National Party has placed its faith in a local businessman and trained teacher to hold on to the Perth City North and Perth City South seats.

Voters will go to the polls on November 26 to elect new councillors.

The SNP is defending both seats. In Perth City North, the vote came about because of the election of former councillor Dave Doogan to Westminster as MP for Angus.

In Perth City South, the sad passing of Cllr Bob Band has prompted the vote.

Businessman Ian Massie will stand for the Nationalists in Perth City North while Iain MacPherson will have his name on the ballot in Perth City South.

Mr Massie has run his own business in the city in the same location for nearly 19 years. He was brought up on Newhouse Road and volunteers for local community groups.

He said: “It is an honour to have been selected to be the SNP candidate for Perth City North.

“I was raised in the area and I know that it is important for residents to have a local voice on the council fighting their corner.

“I have run my own catering business in the same location for nearly 19 years and I have used my wealth of experience to help kick start many other small enterprises in Perth and Kinross over the years.

“More recently I have been fortunate enough to volunteer with organisations such as Letham4All.

Perth City North is made up of strong and resilient local communities, something I have witnessed first-hand as I have been volunteering throughout lockdown.

“It would be a privilege to represent the communities of Perth City North.”

Mr MacPherson trained as a teacher but has also worked in social work and counselling.

He said: “I am delighted to have been selected as the SNP candidate for Perth City South and would, if elected, be determined to continue the excellent work of the late SNP Cllr Bob Band.

“I live in the ward where I am seeking to be elected, so have first-hand knowledge of local issues and the many communities that live and work here.”
