THE Greens and SNP are both celebrating a major result in the Pollokshields ward of Glasgow as the Tories lost their seat in the area.
The SNP now have two councillors in the four-member ward in Zen Ghani and Norman MacLeod while the Greens' Jon Molyneux secured his seat as the party rocketed from 4th to 1st place.
It meant Tory candidate David Meikle - husband of former SNP MP Natalie McGarry - lost out as Labour took the final spot.
First Minister Nicola Sturgeon called it a "seismic" result for her party as Pollokshields has been home to a Tory seat in Glasgow for many years.
She said on Twitter: "National/trends aside, this result is seismic. For years, Pollokshields was the only Tory seat in Glasgow and it seemed we would never take it.
"Congrats to @SNPNorman and (Norman won't mind this) especially to @ZenGhani - he's a v talented young guy and I'm so proud of him."
