SNP call for Dominic Cummings to be hauled in front Commons committee over reshuffle chaos

The SNP’s Westminster leader has called for Boris Johnson’s top aide to be hauled in front a Westminster committee.

Ian Blackford said Dominic Cummings should be quizzed on any role he played in the Prime Minister’s chaotic reshuffle.

Johnson’s Government refresh turned into a shambles after chancellor Sajid Javid quit.

The Tory MP was offered the job again on condition he fired his special advisers - an instruction he turned down.

The idea for Downing Street and the Treasury to share advisers was believed to originate from Cummings, who led the Vote Leave campaign.

In a letter to the clerk of Westminster’s Liaison Committee, Blackford wrote: “The amalgamation of 10 Downing Street and the Treasury has come as a surprise to everyone – including to the former Chancellor.

“It is substantially in the public interest to summon those involved in designing these changes - we should know their purpose and intent.

"Dominic Cummings, Boris Johnson’s Chief Special Adviser, has been widely reported as the main catalyst for these alterations and so it’s right that he is the first to be summoned and required to answer questions on this matter.

Javid said after his resignation: “I was unable to accept those conditions and I do not believe any self-respecting minister would accept those conditions.”

Downing Street declined to comment.
