SNP brands Boris Johnson 'democracy denier' over IndyRef2 bid rejection

Boris Johnson has been branded a “democracy denier” for refusing to transfer referendum powers to the Scottish government.

Ian Blackford, the SNP Westminster leader, said the turning down her request for a second referendum was “undemocratic, unacceptable and completely unsustainable”.

But in a high-handed Johnson told the SNP leader to “ change the record” on independence.

Blackford said the Prime Minister had shown “utter contempt for Scottish democracy for Scotland Parliament and Scotland’s people”.

He added” “Does the  Prime Minister accept that by ignoring Scotland , imposing Brexit and pursuing of cruel and punishing policies that he strengthen the case for Scottish independence?”

Johnson replied: “It was not only the Right Honourable gentleman, it was also Alex Salmond and his protege Nicola Sturgeon, who said that the time of the referendum that it was a once in a generation event. He said it, they said it. He is the denier of democracy.”

Johnson slapped his hand on his head when the SNP leader then accused him of living a “fantasy land” only being interested in a union with the US President on Iran and selling of the NHS in a “toxic Trump deal.”

Johnson pointed out with delight that the SNP had actually welcomed the government statement on the Iranian nuclear deal.

The PM  then slapped down the SNP leader with a new catchphrase.

He said: “Scotland under the SNP is the highest taxed part of the UK. The deficit is six times the UK average.  Maths and Sciences in schools is going down in the Pisa rankings. That is no fault of the pupils of Scotland, that is the fault of the SNP government who do not give them the chances they deserve because they are obsessed with breaking up the United Kingdom. Change the record.“
