SNP axe plans to stage Boris Johnson no confidence vote

SNP plans to stage a vote of no-confidence on Boris Johnson in the Commons during the Tory conference have been dumped by opposition parties.

Opposition party leaders meeting in London yesterday agreed to hold off bringing down the Government until they have secured an extension to the Brexit deadline.

The move comes after First Minister Nicola Sturgeon said the SNP would be willing to support Jeremy Corbyn as a caretaker prime minister, in order to rule out no-deal, and call a general election.

Boris Johnson has brought nothing but shame in his time as PM (PA)

Speaking after cross-party talks, Corbyn said he will back a motion “at a point we can win it and take no-deal off the table”.

The SNP’s Ian Blackford said: “What we absolutely are united on is that we want to stop no-deal. We are going to continue to meet over the coming days.”

A rift remains among opposition leaders, with Corbyn and Lib Dem leader Jo Swinson disagreeing over who should lead a unity government.

Swinson claims Corbyn could not command a majority, saying: “He simply does not have the numbers.”
